My experience with news has changed because I've noticed that people only formulate their opinions based on just one or two news items they've seen and don't investigate or try to formulate their opinion.
The video of a black man being killed by US police was the last straw for people tolerating police brutality. Racism still happens a lot and people wanted to change that so they made a peaceful protest to get justice for black lives. Because this subject of intense discrimination really touches me i wanted to learn everything that was going on, so i spent hours watching lives of the protests and searching tweets of people who were there.
I learned that the people who were truly protesting were hurt unnecessarily by police and the vandalism was made mostly by infiltrated people who wanted to cause chaos. I never looked at the news because they only showed the people who were robbing stores, starting fires and vandalising the city and trying to make most people believe that these protests were unnecessary and destructive.
Their opinions were based on the limited information given buy the news stations.
Is this the news stations fault? Do we need to cancel the news? NO
People need to expand their knowledge!
When an issue that could cause panic, rage, fear and chaos happens somewhere in the world, people can’t just believe the first thing that pops up in the media. You have to investigate as much as possible before rushing to conclusions.
The world is evolving fast but unfortunately this mentality is evolving slowly. If everyone thought before they talked, the mess would be less.
